The mother of a 2-year-old who was left behind at a Chuck E. Cheese on the Northwest Side will not have to face criminal charges. Police told the Chicago Tribune that the matter was a “misunderstanding.”
So there’s no fear of the mother having to deal (http://www.chicagobreakingnews.com/2010/03/cops-mom-of-toddler-left-at-chuck-e-cheeses-wont-face-charges.html) with the judicial system. But the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, which took custody of the girl when she was reported to police Saturday night, continues to investigate the situation.
THAT MEANS THE mother now has to endure the bureaucratic mess otherwise known as the state’s child welfare system, if she wants to get her daughter back.
That could wind up being a punishment, in and of itself, for the mother.
