CAPITOL QUIPS: It’s time for Gov. Rod to “play nice” with Madigan & Legislature

Our “Quote of the Day” honors go to state Rep. Lou Lang, D-Skokie, who during a Monday night appearance on the WTTW-TV program “Chicago Tonight” tried to explain why his leader, House Speaker Michael Madigan, D-Chicago, is so adamantly opposed to the activities of Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

Lang, who during his more than two decades in the Illinois House has risen to a significant position of authority under Madigan, says the speaker wants a governor who acknowledges the responsibilities that come with the title, and who is willing to work with the Legislature – instead of constantly combating it – on various issues.

Or, as Lang so “eloquently” put it, Madigan wants, “to have (Blagojevich) play nice in the sandbox with other government leaders.”

Dear Mr. Michael Madigan,

I will say to you I am sorry for whatever you have suffered as a Child to cause you to distrust and have a need to have Power and Control. I myself have things that I have had to work on from my Childhood. Alot of people grew up with this and want to change the Cycle of Human Behavior. Meaning "Bad Behavior". But all these Laws with no repair plan, pretty much makes it hopeless. Some people made mistakes in the past and need a second chance. This has become an unforgiving society, an unforgiving State and the people have to contend with legislative laws with Zero Tolerance. We have current laws that are stiff and trigger happy State Attorneys aiming for high conviction rates. This can't be good overall and in general the whole population suffers since all the Moms, Dads, Sisters, Brothers, and relatives are all affected. Please work with Mr. Blagojevich to pass the Bill. The Democratic Party that supports you needs to get out of Denial. There is a sick man in the House. Do you want to change the cycle of bad behavior or live with it? Empower the People. They need to understand so we can move on and fix this mess. I get an "endomorphine rush" on doing good things. A good high! I myself have children and grandchildren and want a better life for them. Therefore we need changes for a better life. And there are people in this world that can change for the better.

Peace,

A concerned citizen
