Mr. Tejada- You fail to mention even one reason Illinois is a place anyone would want to live, other than the 4 season climate. Congratulations. Is Illinois unique in having a 4 season climate? You also failed to dispute even one of the facts he listed about what an abhorrent state the state of Illinois' finances are, or provide even one suggestion as to a solution. Your blog entry is specious at best. It can be summed up with '...well, where will he go (if) when Texas' political climate erodes?' One potential answer: Another country. Why not? It might provide a modicum of relief for the estate tax!

Even if such cameras will issue many traffic tickets I think this action is welcome because drivers will have one more reason to be afraid of the law and this way the number of traffic violations could droop off.

I once received a traffic ticket Toronto issued by such a camera and it was a good lesson...I hope everyone will get the message because no one wants to issue tickets but to increase the safety on our streets.

Anonymous seems oblivious to some of the basic facts of Tamms:

1. More than half the prisoners there have not committed a violent act against other prisoners or a guard. They are sent for preventive detention without any clear criteria for placement.

2. Many prisoners are driven mad by the isolation -- some develop PTSD, cut themselves, and grow dangerously depressed, even suicidal.

3. The mental health therapy consists of about an hour a week of group therapy or individual therapy in which seriously mentally ill prisoners are put inside a glass phone booth and given advice or allowed to play a board game -- without actually touching the pieces!

4. The place does not work. Nobody is improved by Tamms. Evidence shows that recidivism increases after placement in a supermax.

5. Prisoners are without human contact -- apart from shouting through their perforated steel doors -- 24/7. Even their exercise is done alone (one hour a day at most) in a small, concrete yard.

Please don't insult readers intelligence by speaking of prisoner's air conditioned cells and health care as if this were a vacation home! This is a prison condemned by every human rights organization in the country. Supermax prisons are being closed all over the country because they are expensive, don't work, and drive prisoners crazy.

I am very sorry if the writer or his friends may lose their jobs at Tamms. But I would ask him -- for the sake of prisoners, their families, justice and their own souls -please accept alternative employment offered by the IDOC!

Normally, I would agree with you. I'm a 65 year old white dude, or if you prefer, as my students used to call my, and at least one black panther I might add A Honkey MF'er. I have long thought that Congressman Rush should not be where he is. If he was truly involved in the bp's as he says, there must be felonies in his past, Discovered or not. But all of that aside, he could have accomplished the same message by holding up a hooded sweatshirt. He as you say has been in Congress for years and should know the dress code. He was showboating. Anyone who lives in an urban area knows that some kids who dress like thugs are wannabees. Some are thugs. (They're word not mine). If this young man was murdered because of his race or dress, that's what courts are for. Not the "New Black Panther" party setting rewards. I wonder did Bobby license that?

If you are going to write a article and make statements about conditions at Tamms it might be responsible to know what you are talking about. I am so sorry tired of reading articles about the conditions of Tamms that are far from the truth. Inmates at times are not isolated from each other. They are single celled on wings with nine other inmates. They constantly talk and play games with each other. The most common being chess. If you can play a game of chess against a gut three cells away, How isolated is that? They talk all night to each other about the sports game that they are watching or listening to. All this from the comforts of their clean air conditioned cell. Receiving quality health care and food. Correctional Officers make rounds every 30 minutes and have contact with the inmates as well. And do not forget the reason why these inmates are sent to Tamms, and the simply fact is the place works. I ask that you please look into the facts and correct the numerous errors in your post. Thank you.

You can clearly see in the video interview posted by the Chicago Tribune Editorialthat Halvorson has no qualification to be in Congress. She Could not come up with one idea to reduce spending and Job creation. She tried to overstate her accomplishments in the 2 years she was in office only to be embarrased by the true facts at that Editorial Interview. When asked questions, you could see she wanted Jackson to answer first so she could piggyback of his responses. At the end of the interview I felt sorry for her and it seemed she wanted the interview to finish. She is truly over her head when it comes to Washington DC. Halvorson needs to go away and let Jackson move us forward.

This is very interesting, especially in light of recent evidence suggesting a strong link of rampant impropriety and a larger conspiracy within the Wheaton IL police department.

In turns out Wheaton PD Ofc. Dana L Opalinski who was recognized for her outstanding arrest record for writing DUI tickets to motorist(s). Was in fact at least once allegidly driving her police issued cruiser and may have either been under the influence of some sort of over the counter drugs to stay awake or came to work too tired to perform her duties as a patrol officer. On the night of September 24,2009 officer Dana Opalinski at 4 am in the morning crashed her patrol car, running not only over a mailbox, but also driving through the front door of a local Wheaton Illinois citizens home! Now new evidence is coming out suggesting that there may have been a coverup by the Wheaton Police department and officials. Especially in light of the fact that she was awarded top honors for writing 50 DUI citation's herself. Additionally, a number of other officers with the Wheaton Police department are also credited with very high arrest reports for DUI's and many of the same officers whom not always ride in the same squad car have surprisingly consistent DUI record numbers.

It's apparent that you don't live in Beverly or really know anything about the neighborhood and it's demographics. I think if there is any deeper meaning to the signs it's socioeconomic-based, not race. The strength in neighborhood services, cohesiveness, and pride is very apparent in Beverly. Those on the fringe of the ward that are concerned about being remapped are concerned these amenities may disappear, along with their home values, where they've paid a premium to receive these benefits. The other reality is that the eastern border of the 19th ward is racially mixed, likely more black than white. If BAPA and Beverly residents were looking to whiten their ward, why would they be fighting this? BAPA was founded on and continues to fight for racial diversity and the best interests of its residents. Handing out these signs is an attempt to protect the livelihood and investments of all 19th ward residents, black and white. As a result, the signs you see are sitting in the yards of both blacks and whites. Looks to me like the unique diversity Beverly has managed to create and maintain over the last 40 years is something residents feel is worth fighting for, regardless of their skin color. Shame on you for jumping on the tired bandwagon of assumed racism. By the way, where do you live? Tinley Park? I could make some assumptions too.....
